Why do you work for Turner?

Simone Lawrence
Wellbeing Coordinator

Why do you do the job you do?

I do this job because I like to think I will have a positive impact on the resident's lives.

How long have you worked for Turner?

I've been here just over 2 years.

What did you do before?

Before working here, I had various roles in different sectors. Unfortunately I got made redundant due to Covid. I'd briefly done community care jobs in the past and always loved it, so it was a great opportunity to get back into the sector.

What attracted you to work for Turner?

Making a difference in people's lives is the main reason why I wanted to work here. Also, I enjoy the flexible working hours of the job.

What are your aspirations for the future (for yourself and Turner)?

Eventually I would like to get into Occupational Therapy. Whether that is with Turner home or elsewhere.

What is your favourite part of your job?

Having the freedom to book events and activities for the residents that would best suit their interests, such as entertainment inside the home (singers, animals etc), day trips out etc. I love building a rapport with the men on an individual level.

Why do you do the job you do?

I believe that job of the care worker is very rewarding as it gives the opportunity to make a difference to someone’s life. For me, it is a great privilege.

How long have you worked for Turner?

For about 4 years. I had a short time (few months) in other Nursing Homes, but I came back, because I missed Turner.

What did you do before?

I was working as an accountant over 20 years and I really wanted to change my career, to do something what can give me more satisfaction and more meaning (when it comes to my values). I decided to give care a try, did all my training and shadow shifts and started to work with people with spinal cord injuries. After a while I started in Turner, and I can say I am very happy. I made the best decision for me.

What attracted you to work for Turner?

Turner is just different to all the other places I’ve had chance to work. It feels like home, family. We have an incredible team of people, lovely residents, good relationships and very supportive management.

What are your aspirations for the future (for yourself and Turner)?

My aspirations for the future are to improve even more and to be courageous to implement positive changes.

What is your favourite part of your job?

My favourite part of my job is interaction with our residents. Special events, like Christmas, Bonfire Night, Halloween etc., they are just magical at Turner.
