Putting Employees' Well-being First: Nurturing Our Team at Turner

Updated: Jul 28, 2023

In the wake of the significant events of the last few years with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic amplified by the challenges of the rising cost of living, prioritizing the well-being of our employees has become a cornerstone of our values at Turner. We firmly believe that a happy and supported workforce is essential for delivering the best possible care to our residents. As an organization that places "nurturing" at the heart of our daily operations, we have fostered a culture of support, open communication and inclusivity, where no topic is off-limits and all team members are encouraged to look after one another.

A Collaborative Project: Empowering Conversations

Recognizing the importance of addressing all aspects of well-being we initiated a special group within our organization. The inspiration for the group's name came from one of our beloved residents, who affectionately calls every female staff member "Daisy." Hence, "The Daisy Group" was born. This group serves as a safe space where our team members gather to support each other and normalize conversations about important topics such as menopause, stress at work and health concerns like testicular and breast cancer.

Creating a Supportive Community

The Daisy Group is a truly collaborative and inclusive project, driven by the dedication of our team members to make a positive impact on each other's lives. Monthly meetings provide a platform for open discussions, allowing our staff to share their experiences, seek advice and offer support. By nurturing an environment where team members feel comfortable talking about their challenges and triumphs we have fostered a sense of camaraderie and understanding.

Beyond the serious discussions, The Daisy Group also celebrates the diversity within our team. Our staff members take pride in sharing their cultural backgrounds through culinary delights, preparing and sampling national dishes from India, Pakistan, the UK, the Philippines, Hungary, and beyond. These shared moments of tasting different cuisines not only broaden our culinary horizons but also strengthen the bonds between team members from diverse backgrounds.

Supporting Financial Well-being

We recognize that financial stress is a challenge faced by many and we are committed to providing a fair and supportive working environment. To alleviate some of the burdens we ensure that all our staff members are paid at least the national living wage. We believe that this commitment not only shows our appreciation for their hard work but also contributes to their overall well-being.

Investing in our Employee Assistance Program (EAP).

As part of our commitment to holistic well-being, we have invested in an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) to offer additional support to our staff members. The EAP provides access to therapeutic support when needed, helping team members navigate through challenging times and offering guidance on a range of personal and professional matters. Furthermore, it offers access to legal advice, ensuring our employees have the resources they need to handle various life situations confidently.

At Turner, the well-being of our employees is paramount. Through the Daisy Group, we have created a nurturing space where team members can come together, support each other and engage in open conversations about various topics impacting their lives. Our commitment to financial well-being and investment in the Employee Assistance Program reflect our dedication to providing comprehensive support to our team. By prioritizing employees' well-being we empower them to deliver the best care to our residents, fostering a positive and thriving community at Turner. Together, we nurture, support and uplift each other as a family, because at Turner our team is our greatest asset.
