We are delighted to introduce a new and exciting project at Turner Home that will explore our rich history and the heritage of the city of Liverpool, using the past to support care, connection and wellbeing today.
Turner Home has been part of Liverpool’s story for over 140 years. Throughout that time, the home has provided care, compassion and stability for generations of residents. This new project, Turner Home: 140 Years of Care, gives us the opportunity to uncover, celebrate and share that history in meaningful ways that benefit the people who live and work here now, as well as the wider community.
Using heritage to support care and wellbeing
Using heritage as a creative and therapeutic tool, the project will explore Turner Home’s own story alongside the social history of Liverpool. By looking back at people, places and experiences from the past, we aim to strengthen identity, spark memories, encourage conversation and build a stronger sense of belonging.
Heritage inspired activities for residents
At the heart of the project are our residents. They will enjoy an enriched programme of heritage inspired activities designed to support wellbeing, confidence and connection. These activities will include gardening, reminiscence sessions, storytelling, music, sporting heritage and trips out into the local area. Residents will be actively involved in shaping activities, sharing memories and helping to guide what the project becomes.
Supporting staff skills and learning
The project will also support staff development, offering opportunities to gain new skills and knowledge in heritage based and person centred approaches. By working together across teams, we will embed learning from the project into everyday practice, helping to strengthen Turner Home for the future.
Connecting Turner Home with the local community
A key aim of Turner Home: 140 Years of Care is to reconnect the home with its local community. We will work with community groups, volunteers and heritage partners to build new relationships and invite people to engage with Turner’s story. By opening up conversations about our shared past, we hope to reduce isolation, challenge stigma and celebrate Turner Home as an important part of Liverpool’s heritage.
Looking ahead to Turner Home’s 150th anniversary
This project comes at an important moment as we look ahead to Turner Home’s 150th anniversary in 2033. By reflecting on where we have come from, we can better understand who we are today and how we want to shape the years ahead.
What happens next
We look forward to sharing updates, stories, and opportunities to get involved as the project develops.
